Romero House has partnered with the FCJ Refugee Centre and the City of Toronto to participate in a vaccine ambassador program that sees community members tackling vaccine hesitancy, misinformation and accessibility. We are grateful to have had two wonderful ambassadors working with Romero House. Below are the reflections from Winnie Muchuba on the important work that she has been doing to support vaccinations amongst the refugee and newcomers population in the Greater Toronto Area:
The emergence of Covid19, then the variant Delta and the new variant has left the world in the panic, and no one know how to cope with it. The only tools that is relevant is strategies to stay safe, protect each other as the virus is very transmissible.
My experience as a community Ambassador is not easy as people have discrepancy about Covid 19, many conspiracies and hesitancies. It is okay to believe in all these, but the fact is there. The public health data about affected people say more every day, the hospital is full every day, friends and family are affected every day. I cannot ignore that. for me We can have all day without finding common ground conversation but what put us together is that Covid is here, and we need to talk about, Covid is here and in the entire world. Life every where is not the same since Covid started, businesses, health Institutions and men all are struggling to survive. I have a lot of conversations about how we can put our differences away and build a strong wall of courage to fight against Covid 19.
My conversation is how I choose my mask before the health condition du to covid illness impose me oxygen mask, I choose to sanitize my hand and to wash my hand every time I am in contact with everyone. To be sure that you are safe, testing is the tool as some people are asymptomatic.
The delivering of Covid 19 Vaccine passports is the most part that I like doing in the weekend because people need them in their phone when they have to show them when needed to access public areas like restaurants, sports activities, …
My role is not convincing people about a choice, everyone is responsible of his own choice, but everyone is concern about putting other in risk of contamination which is important to be aware of the covid protocols and how to respect them and to address them in the manner that we save each another life. If we keep the 3 aspects in practice, we will have a covid 19 zero and we will back to normal life again.
we will give our kids hope to have social life again because they do well in social group.
Vaccing, masking and Testing are important to consider to keep ourself and beloved one safe.
Thank you for supporting the fight against Covid19.
Please choose your mask, life is beautiful when we are healthy.
