Ways to Support Romero House
Prayer Support. Life can be difficult for a refugee and the daily struggle never gets easier. Support us in faith and hope.
Financial Support. We need money. Yes, it’s that simple. All donors (monetary and in kind) will receive a receipt for income tax purposes. Donations can be made by cheques payable to Romero House or by donating securely online by clicking on this image:

Here are just a few examples of the ways in which we use donated funds:
Refugee Settlement Services — Romero House provides free, accurate and caring resettlement support to refugees on a nearly 24 hour basis. This support is primarily provided by full-time volunteers, called interns, who live in the same houses at the refugees. Consider supporting an intern for a month, a few months, for a year. The expenses for an Intern for a month are approximately $ 800.
Romero Community Programs — These programs, largely organized by interns, include special dinners, Garden Club, Women's Group, Homework Club, children's activities, tax clinics, Building Community Committee, Street Party, and so much more. Your donations help refugees to choose life over despair by allowing them to celebrate life and build community in their new place, even while they feel uprooted, broken, or uncertain.
Landing Fees — When a Romero refugee claimant is determined to be a refugee, they can apply for permanent residence - or "landing" - in Canada. Romero House pays half of the landing fees, which are $550 per adult and $150 per child.
Camp Romero — Each August we take approximately 45 current and former refugees to Northern Ontario to experience the great outdoors. Your donations allow us to rent the camp, charter a bus and provide food for this restful, community-building and soul-restoring week.
Refugee Emergency Support — From time to time, our current and former residents need short-term financial assistance to help us with situations like unforeseen medical expenses, tuition, and legal fees. Currently we are in urgent need of money for residents who have been unable to access legal aid.
Home Improvement — Our operating subsidy from the City of Toronto covers only the basic expenses (mortgages, utilities etc.) Your donations allow us to provide the little things that make a house into a home.
